When the original Ghostbusters hit the home computer scene all the way back in 1984 we were quite literally as giddy kids at Christmas. Racing across mid-town Manhattan to try and catch a Slimer before taking on Marshmallow Man. What more could a child with a Commodore 64 ask for?

Now, finally, a remake is in the pipeline - and we're already tipping this to do damage in the autumn charts. Sierra has revealed that its next-gen Ghostbusters game will hit stores in October on PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, PSP and DS.

The game will feature the original film cast from the classic Ghostbusters films, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, back again for the first time in more than 20 years. Supporting the ghost busting crew are the talents of Annie Potts, Brian Doyle Murray and William Atherton. Equipped with a variety of unique weapons and gadgets, players will hunt, fight and capture a wide range of supernatural villains in a funny and frightening battle to save New York City from its latest paranormal plague.

You fill the sticky shoes of a fifth rookie ghostbuster alongside the original four. From what we know so far most of the game consists of shooting creatures found from the original film and staying as true to the narrative as possible. Multiplayer is also expected to be catered to with a co-op portion of the game consisting of two-player challenges rather than a full-on campaign mode (more is the pity!)

Get ready to shout 'He slimed me!' in time for Halloween.
