Kung Fu Panda - (multiformat)
Developer: Luxoflux
Format: multiformat
Genre: Action
Good movie, better game?
This game could have been a stinker. This game could have had a real 'hang'em out as far as you can with a peg on your nose' smell of a rotten movie crossover license conversion. But fortunately, it's far from rotten. Catch of the day fresh? Perhaps not. But just like a decent take-away, KFP is digestible and enjoyable without pretending to be something it's not.
Based on the recently released animated movie of the same name, the videogame version is an extension of the film's plot. Players have to work through 13 multi-stage levels as Po and his animal cohorts spanning air, water and land to battle a variety of foes, overcome obstacles, navigate multi-tiered environments and solve puzzles that don't really test the grey matter too much.
In addition to the single player mode there's a full-on multiplayer function. Gamers can go head-to-head against friends across a variety of battle arenas with their favourite characters including Po and the Furious Five, Tai Lung, the ferocious Ox and others. Players can also team up in cooperative mode to work through a series of challenges and defeat a wide assortment of over the top bad guys.
Kung Fu Panda does everything you expect of it by serving up an easy to enjoy, good looking slice of family-orientated videogaming action. An arcade adventure that a 10 year old can enjoy, but thanks to a few subtle gameplay nuances such as sophisticated combo moves in the beat-em sequences, a title that adult gamers can get into too.
What more can you ask from a movie licence game?
