WARSAW (Reuters) - The United States and Poland formally signed a deal on Wednesday to station elements of a U.S. missile defence shield in Poland, a move bound to aggravate Russia-Western tensions over Moscow’s intervention in Georgia.
The agreement was signed by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski at a ceremony also attended by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Lech Kaczynski.
Russia has called the deal a threat to its security and accused Warsaw and Washington of hastening its signing as a response to its military action in Georgia.
